Za Wald 9 (Part 2)

Finally a bit of luck. Besides discovering that Summer Wars was also being screened there in non-conflicting schedules with the Evangelion movie, I found out that tickets cost ¥1000 whenever it’s the first day of the month (¥1800 is the normal price). I was going to write about both movies, but I remembered that I suck at this type of stuff. Both were awesome in their own way. Although I liked Summer Wars more, Evangelion 2.0 was the one that I did re-watch. One thing I do think is worth mentioning is that Summer Wars was seen by a very good ratio of men:women (almost 50-50) and quite a lot of people for a big room. Eva was shown on smaller room and despite exhibition time (26:35), a good public and quite a lot of women (about 30-70). Both times, I saw this really cute short Japanese girl who had a purple bag. Huge Eva fan! Below the two posters are the photos of the return home after the last session in the multiplex.

Za Wald 9 (Part 1)

I thought I wouldn’t be blogging from Tokyo, but luckily my aunt installed a wireless network which enables me to not monopolize her computer.

October 31st I went to Shimokitazawa to watch a show where my cousin Natsuhiko would play acoustic guitar on a couple songs to assist a performer called Leo Imai. From Wikipedia: “Also known as ‘Shimokita’, the district is a center for stage theater and live music venues. It is home to the historic Honda Gekijō theater building. With its numerous cafes, unique fashion and music outlets, Shimokitazawa is popular with students and young people.” Before and after the show, I hung with my cousin’s cool girlfriend, Konomi, and their sympathetic friends, Tomo and his girlfriend (picture of both to the right). We talked about several things and at a certain point Konomi mentioned that the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance movie was still playing at Shinyurigaoka. At the end of the night, I decided I would go there since apparently the screening would soon end.

Near noon of the next day, I went to Shinyurigaoka just to find out that it wasn’t playing there anymore, but it was still playing at Shinjuku at a famous cinema multiplex called Wald 9. It didn’t feel like a pointless trip because I got a little entertainment from a small school band playing in front of a department store. Two more pictures here and here.

Went to Shinjuku just to find out that it was going to play… at 26h35. Walked around a bit and thought that it was worth it. Then I noticed that Summer Wars would be screened at 21:20, so I decided to watch both. With a lot of free time on my hands, I went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Center. The 45th floor offers a free view of Shinjuku. I emphasize the free part here. At the Roppongi Hills in Roppongi, the view is also free, but they offer a visit to a higher level if you pay. At the Sunshine Building in Ikebukuro, you have to pay to simply get to the 60th floor with the view. Lame.

taikoatTMGCtaikoatTMGC2There was some sort of taiko festival occurring in front of the TMGC. Bigger versions of the pictures here and here +1 more.

viewatTMGC2viewfromTMGCAbove are pictures from the view of the TMGC. Bigger pictures here and here. There was a strange mascot hugging kids. Animated and on print he must look really cute. Make a costume out of it? Not a good idea.
