Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl – More Posters

leave a comment »

Last year I wrote about the movie posters on the openings of Yawara! and I ended up forgetting the pop music ones in her room. My guess is that the boy bands on the wall seen in the image below are 光GENJI (Hikaru Genji) on the left and 少年隊 (Shonentai) on the right. Both are mentioned by Yawara when she asks her grandfather if he met them when he went to a TV station.

Jarinko Chie

sonofgodzillajarinkochie
Chie Takemoto and her mother leaving a movie theater after seeing the 1967 ゴジラの息子 (Son of Godzilla). Image comes from the 1981 movie Jarinko Chie which was directed by Isao Takahata. A curious moment in the movie, a small scene from the live-action monster film is shown right before the part depicted above.

Huge Gone with the Wind poster as Chie returns home after spending the day with her mother. After her parents split, she keeps contact with her mother by secretly meeting her from time to time. She lives with her father because she has to take care of him since he is an irresponsible gambler. Interesting to think that Gone with the Wind, a 1939 movie, could still be exhibited almost 30 years after it’s premiere on theaters.

The room of the twins Mizuno and Marino You is covered with posters of Aqua Timez, band that has their single, GRAVITY Ø, as opening song of Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto.

Gunbuster

leave a comment »

In the beginning of the last year I wrote about Gunbuster, but upon re-watching it I ended up noticing a few more interesting posters in this original video animation (OVA). The first three images are just reposts from the old blog entry.

noriko's room 1
My Neighbor Totoro and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind posters in Noriko’s room. Noriko Hikada, voice of Noriko Takaya (main character of Gunbuster), was the voice of Satsuki Kusakabe, the older sister in My Neighbor Totoro. The director Hideaki Anno had previously worked on the Nausicaa movie.

To the left, Great Planet War: The War in Space (惑星大戦争 THE WAR IN SPACE) from 1977. In the middle, Spaceship of Human Destruction, Super Giant 5 (人工衛星と人類の破滅) from 1957. And a poster of the 60’s British marionette puppetry TV series, The Thunderbirds

Lucky Star + Saw

Comedy filled with parodies, Lucky Star quickly displays the billboard of the famous horror series Saw, film some of the girls are about to watch (for the despair of Tsukasa). Not exactly a poster… but sort of related.

Four Rooms and Golden Axe

leave a comment »

An unusual post since I found the image of the poster in the anime in the net, I didn’t screenshot it. Also because the second image is from the intro of a game, not a poster. First one is a Four Rooms poster found in the terrible Amagami SS. I only watched the first and the twelfth episode (from which the image comes from) and both were just awful.

Next is Goldex Axe found in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. The intro image depicts War Club (戦棍) instead of Golden Axe (戦斧). Since I lack the gaming knowledge to know all references found in the game center found in Academy City, I found this blog post that identifies probably all references.
